Career Day Costume | Officer Sam!

My daughter is in Kindergarten and this week they have been studying Community Helpers and Careers. Today was the day they had all been waiting for : Dress Up Career Day!! Sam came home a few weeks ago in preparation for this day to announce that she needed to be a "policeman" for career day. She then proceeded to tell me about her PINK policeman costume. I informed her that police officers didn't normally have pink in their uniforms and that we would see what we could do.
Items needed for Career Day Costume
navy pants/leggings and navy t-shirt
navy visor and matching fabric
roll of Pink Duck Brand Tape
cardboard or card stock
foil
brads
glue, need, thread
police person accessories

To transform Sam's navy outfit into a police uniform, I simply printed off the word "Police" in an easy to trim font on my computer [Impact] and put some Duck Tape on a used sticker sheet. I cut around each letter and then lined them up on a ruler to make the word straight. I replaced the dot on the "i" with a ♥.  The Duck Tape is removable and Sam can wear the shirt long after Career Day.

For the hat, I cut an 8" circle out of the card stock [2 layers glued together for strength]. I glued the card stock to the fabric and cut another circle out of the fabric--about 13". I gathered the fabric on the edge with needle and thread and a quick running stitch. The gathered circle was then hotglued and stitched onto the visor...the front the circle goes OVER the the lip of the visor. Once past the brim, the circle edge gets tucked into the visor. A piece of Duck Tape folded into 3rds was used to fashion a trim across the front of the hat.
A simple badge shape was cut out of the double card stock. Cardboard letters "PD" were adhered to the front. Foil was then rubbed on and around the badge to make it "shiny". The badge was applied to the hat with glue.

The belt was constructed using 4 long pieces of Duck Tape. Loops were fashioned out of Duck Tape folded into 3rds and taped in the back. A "buckle" was made using a buckle alphabet letter that I had but could easily have been made using a piece of card board covered with tape or foil. "Fabric" was made by laying strips of tape upon themselves until  a big enough piece was achieved. I then made a pocket for the handcuffs and a cover for the ticket book. Brads were used as decorative elements on the belt and hat.

Officer Sam LOVES her pink police officer uniform and will be roaming the halls handing out tickets to those not following school rules! Thank you for stopping by!

Weekly Challenge | Swirls and Pearls

It's time again for our weekly challenge at Delightful Challenges! This week's challenge is to use Swirls and Pearls! Obviously I concentrated on the pearls! I've been making a bunch of "festive" cards all year and admittedly I will say each one is my favorite. THIS card however, just may be my favorite! I love the non-traditional colors and the glisten of the perfect pearls on the ink. The pearl bling makes the card heavy and gives the impression that it is more substantial.  Thank you for stopping by!

Welcome to the 3rd Crafty Ribbons Challenge! I am this challenge's hostess and the theme is
BOO-tiful Halloween, Pretty Spooky!!
This challenge will run from 29th Sept 8.30am until 6pm 12th Oct.
We are making pretty and pretty spooky projects loaded with RIBBON! You will be amazed and inspired by all of the Design Teams' boo-tiful creations! I hope you enjoy mine!

When I was gearing up for this week's challenge, I just knew I wanted to use a bunch of Crafty Ribbon's Halloween ribbons to make a hairbow inspired by "the homecoming bow" on the Sweetpeas and Kisses blog. For this pony tail hair bow I attached 2 4-loop tails-down bows to a bundle of tails and a 2-loop tails-down bow. I completed the ribbon by adding some Crafty Ribbons buttons layered on top. The directions to folding the tails-down bows are at Sweetpeas and Kisses website...The ribbon of course is at non-other than Crafty Ribbons website!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you like my project! To see other awesome projects from the Crafty Ribbons Challenge Team hop over to the blogs below.

Celebrate Card Making for Soldiers WORLD WIDE

Saturday from 2 p.m.-5:00 p.m. CST myself and several talented friends from around the world will be demonstrating cards of all kinds for our service men and women to send back to their families.
This event originated as a celebration of Operation Write Home's 4th Birthday and turned into something much more...We learned that this opportunity--to give to our active service men and women beautiful cards that they can in turn send to their loved ones--is not exclusive to the USA but rather there are many organizations around the world doing similar deeds. We wish to celebrate them all and raise awareness of this easy way for paper crafters to give back. Join us in the Papermood Linqto Room to get crafty and learn about a worthwhile philanthropy. See you there!

Festive Friday #17 | New Toys

Happy Friday everyone!! It's time for the Festive Friday Blog Hop hosted by Terri Sproul again. This bi-monthly blog hop features Holiday cards from many talented card crafters as we get our Christmas cards ready early this year.
If you reached this stop from Becky's blog BC Designs , then you are in the right spot! If you would like to start from the beginning, you can return to Terri's blog

I titled this week's challenge New Toys as on my card I used two of my new toys to complete the project. If you follow my blog you know I recently added to my Design Team accomplishments; I've become a Design Team Member for both the Sakura Hobby Crafts Blog and the Crafty Ribbons Challenge Blog! I'm very excited and honored to be on all 4 design teams. My other two design teams are digital design teams and so my treasure from Digital Delights by Louby Loo and from AJs Digi Shoppe come to my email! When I receive the new releases, my family can attest, I squeal out loud as I'm always so excited to start using the new images and papers.
Well...waiting on snail mail to get your new toys is agony BUT...what fun toys I got this last week!!! Ali and Tony at Crafty Ribbons in the UK sent me a wonderful parcel full of yummy holiday ribbons of all varieties...for this card I chose this cool Twill Merry Christmas printed ribbon...it is the PERFECT size to fit across the card! I have TONS of ribbons to play with and this was my very first small project with my 1st new toy!! We are pampered with this design team! I love all the ribbons and can't wait to share many more projects with them!!!

Later that same week I received a smallish box from California--from Sakura Hobby Crafts! Inside was a huge bottle of the 3D Crystal Lacquer that you already know I love and that brings the shine to the eyes of my digital and traditional stamped cards! I also used the 3D Crystal lacquer as an adhesive for my prisma glitter for the glistening snow. Also inside was a surprise that I will reveal next week AND some 3D Crystal Color Lacquer which was perfect for coloring the bows on my House Mouse Stamp! I love it because it is completely transparent and just colored! I love this product and how easy it is to use the little tubes that it comes it! They are perfect for pinpoint application and the tube, while it seems not much bigger than say a BIC Mark-it, it has an ENORMOUS amount of product in it that will no doubt last me quite a while! Super fun! The folks at Sakura and our DT Leader Terri certainly spoil us too!

Thank you to all the folks responsible for all of my Design Teams, it is an honor and a pleasure working for each of you and with my teammates!! I couldn't be more thrilled!! I love what I get to do for you and I hope it shows.

Thank you so much for stopping by!! I hope you enjoyed my card! Now back to our regularly scheduled hop! The next stop on the hop is Laura Fisher's blog. If you get lost on the way, the entire list is below!
